Big Ass Fans Supports Kentucky Youth and Education at STEM Event!
July 23, 2009
Big Ass Fans shows support for KY Girls STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Collaborative Project by sending Jody Spera, a Product Specialist and Mechanical Engineer, to inspire young girls to pursue their interest in industrial related fields.
Kentucky girls (K-12) interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics came together to learn how to connect schooling to real world experiences. Relating airplane wings to the airfoils on Big Ass Fans, Spera taught the girls how surface area on a wing can make a big difference on the performance of both a plane and a Big Ass Fan. Spera helped to educate the girls by interacting in an activity allowing them to build paper airplanes with wings of different surface areas. The girls then tested their creations to see the results and make an analysis.
“Engineering is sometimes a forgotten career option for young women. Anytime I have the opportunity to encourage children to pursue their dreams and continue on with education I am happy to offer my support! I just hope they had as much fun as I did!” said Jody Spera after the event.
The KY Girls STEM Collaborative Project provides opportunities for STEM supporters in Kentucky to meet or reconnect, learn about each other’s work, and develop ways to work together to better serve girls and young women. Big Ass Fans is proud to support ongoing education and the future of our world.
